El malvado Gargamel crea un par de criaturas parecidas a los Pitufos, llamadas los Traviesos, con los que espera aprovechar la todopoderosa y mágica pitufiesencia. Luego, descubre que solamente un Pitufo real puede darle lo que desea y que sólo un hechizo secreto que Pitufina conoce puede convertir a Los Traviesos en Pitufos reales. Entonces, Gargamel secuestra a Pitufina y la lleva a París, por lo que Papá Pitufo, Tontín, Gruñón y Vanidoso tendrán que regresar a nuestro mundo, reunirse con sus amigos humanos, Patrick y Grace Winslow, y rescatar a Pitufina.
